Juanita Paige, a client of BllinG and member of the BllinG family has recently written and had her debut novel published. The book entitled 'Torn' is a book about - "A lady named Eve Spencer who's life become complicated when she finds herself 'Torn' over a relationship decision between two men who happen to be brothers! Eve hopes she makes the right decision without someone, if not everyone, getting hurt in the end and soon realizes that there are no rules in her twisted love triangle." The amount of abuse and neglect in this world can be overwhelming at times especially when it involves children. To see children of all ages removed from their homes on a daily basis is troubling. Thankfully, many of these children are not thrown into the court system alone. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children is an invaluable organization in Central Texas. Children are assigned an appointed volunteer who can help extend them a hand, a heart and more importantly, a voice. Volunteers team with a child or family of children and make recommendations on where children should be permanently placed. A true sense of fulfillment occurs when a CASA volunteer moves a child to a safe, stable, permanent home. On average, the process is six months faster for a child with a CASA volunteer then for one without! It is plain to see that the volunteer plays a vital role!
Just last month, BllinG's April Kearney took time away from her busy schedule to visit CASA. Children ranging from 4 months to 17 years of age were in attendance with their new families to discuss the challenges of bi-racial hair care. She was joined by a barber and a braid specialist. The knowledge of black hair that most of us take for granted doesn't come quite as easy for a family that has adopted a bi-racial child. The fact that this small group of hair specialist took the time to share their knowledge on hair texture, treatment, styles and retail products will really help these families out going forward.

Design Essential recently hosted a hair show in Austin at the Crown Plaza Hotel. Design Essentials representative and good friend of BllinG, Gary (shown in center picture above) was a gracious host of the BllinG Team and other stylists who were in attendance to learn more about the various Design Essentials products and to learn some healthy hair care tips. Gary and his team provided a great atmosphere to learn and the featured stylists put on an outstanding show. As always, the show provided BllinG stylists a chance to reunite with some of their friends in the industry from other salons in the Austin, San Antonio and Killeen areas (see photos above). Design Essentials and BllinG are working together to ensure that you, our clients, have all the great products you need to take care of your hair. Next time you in the salon, be sure to congratulate our very own stylist Teena on her recent engagement. We are so happy for her. One of Teena's clients, Ginessa (featured in the Photo of the week) also recently tied the knot. Her wedding took place on Sunday, May 20th. Congratulations to both Teena and Ginessa. BllinG is Blessed to be able to share in this wonderful news!.

Pastor Gary Renfro and wife Vivian, who are good friends and regular customers of BllinG, recently celebrated their 6th Anniversary at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church. BllinG was happy to be able to provide photography services for printed gifts that were provided to the pastor and wife. One of the gifts was a large portrait of the photo above which will eventually be mounted for display within the church. Yvonne, another client of BllinG and member of the church, worked with BllinG Photo services to have the original pictures (which were originally taken while working on the business card for the Pastor shown above) prepared as a surprise for the Renfro's. They had no idea the photos would be edited into the photos shown above. Andrea Bridgeman is a client of BllinG and long time friend of her stylist @ BllinG - Janiece. The very talented Andrea has been singing with the jazz group All U Need for a few years, singing at many functions throughout Austin, TX and surrounding cities. Andrea's soultry voice can be heard and her lovely BllinG hairstyle can be seen at The Studio on Friday nights and some Saturdays. BllinG and Janiece support our clients in everything that they do so recently Janiece and other friends/clients of BllinG visited the The Studio to support Andrea where she is showing that our styles are good for work and for play.

A good haircut is the key.
Sleep on a satin pillowcase.
Don't shampoo everyday.
Comb Conditioner through your hair while in the shower.
Avoid terrycloth towels; use microfiber instead.
Air dry or use diffuser with a leave-in conditioner (such as HCO by Design Essentials).
Use styling products suited for your hair type (See your stylist for professional recommendations).
Never use a brush.
Avoid touching your hair as much as possible.

Have you been experiencing a dry and itchy scalp lately? In a warm climate such as ours whenever the seasons change from warm to cold (and sometimes vice-versa), you can experience some change in the hair and scalp skin as well. A contributing factor to this discomfort could be electrically generated heat (i.e. running your heater). When you have extra electric heat warming your body it tends to draw more moisture from your skin than natural heat. Also, your bodies natural defense when you get cold is that your skin tightens and this too can create itchiness. At BllinG we have several hair care products to help you deal with these natural phenomena during this season, so come in and check them out or ask about them during your next appointment. Our recommendation is that you consult with your stylist prior to purchasing a specific product so that we can provide a professional recommendation regarding which product best suits your specific needs. To close, as we enter this cold season, keep in mind that if you must scratch due to itchiness, use the "tips of your fingers" not your finger nails, because under the nails there are various bacteria that can cause other scalp issues.
